New app features boost usage and  debit card requests

Brief

The platform objetive is to help parents teach their children about financial management, facilitating discussions on saving, budgeting, and financial responsibility.
It aims to instill strong financial values, helping children develop a healthy relationship with money and fostering long-term connections with financial institutions.

Challenge

In the initial phase, the app only allowed children to check the balance on their associated card.
The goal was to expand this basic functionality to include features like Saving Goals, Chores, and Budgets.
These enhancements aimed to provide a more comprehensive tool for financial education, allowing children to learn and practice money management in a more interactive and engaging way.
The challenge was to design these features to be flexible and suitable for different ages and family setups.

Approach

We began by conducting workshops to understand common family financial activities, such as budgeting, saving, and managing chores.
This helped us gather and categorize essential information for phased development.
The design was guided by user story mapping, ensuring the app addressed real-life scenarios.
We rigorously tested and validated each feature to guarantee functionality and user satisfaction.
Collaboration with the development team was crucial to ensure that all proposed features were technically feasible and could be seamlessly integrated into the existing system.

My Contribution

I coordinated and led the discovery, analysis, and definition phases, ensuring that user needs were clearly identified and aligned with project goals.
I facilitated workshops to prioritize key functionalities and foster collaboration among team members.
My primary focus was on translating and replicating family dynamics around money into a digital environment, ensuring the app effectively mirrored real-world financial interactions.
This involved designing a clear sitemap, navigation, and information architecture, as well as developing both low and high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes.
Additionally, I led user testing sessions to validate our design decisions, ensuring they met user expectations and needs.
I acted as a hub between the client, development team, and users, ensuring smooth communication and alignment throughout the project.

Results

The introduction of new features led to a significant increase in app usage, as well as a rise in the number of requests for debit cards linked to the app.
This indicated not only enhanced engagement and satisfaction among users but also a growing trust from parents in their children’s financial education.
